Gowalla

Gowalla was a social bookmarking and location-based social networking website and mobile application that allowed users to check-in at locations, share their current location with friends, leave reviews and comments about locations, and discover new places to explore. It was often compared to its main competitor, Foursquare. The company was founded in 2007 and was acquired by Facebook in 2011, though the application was eventually shut down in 2012.
